Blitzkid LIVE acoustic concert at Flatwoods Monster Museum

Last Tuesday, September 30th, the notable horror punk band, Blitzkid, played an intimate acoustic concert at the Flatwoods Monster Museum, located at 208 Main Street in Sutton. The show consisted of fan-favorite songs from their extensive catalog as well as stories from the bands nearly thirty years of history. Tuesday marked the end of the band’s East Coast tour. The band pre sold 40 tickets for the show on their website, which sold out well in advance.

Blitzkid formed in Bluefield, West Virginia in 1997 and was instrumental in picking up where bands like the Misfits, left off helping to popularize the sub genre of music known as “horror punk.” This style of music combines the raw power and speed of Punk Rock with the macabre, whimsy, and romance of classic horror films and books. Blitzkid is a nationally and internationally beloved band, with many fans in the UK and Germany.

The Flatwoods Monster Museum was chosen as the last stop on the bands tour for a few reasons. Frontman, Steve Matthews aka Argyle Goolsby (his stage name) being a West Virginia native and fan of all things spooky, is a big Flatwoods Monster fan. He hadn’t found time to visit the museum since it opened a in 2018. On the band’s return trip home, they would travel straight through the state on I 79.  Matthews has also been a close acquaintance to museum director, Andrew Smith, for many years. In his solo career Matthews wrote the song, The Being, which tells the story of the Flatwoods Monster as well as pondered where the monster came from and what it’s true identity may have been. Though not originally a Blitzkid track, the band ended their performance with the song as well as invited Smith to join the band on guitar. After the show, the band stuck around to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures.

Many attendees came from out of state including Virginia, Ohio, and New York State. Find clips and photos from the show below. Or visit the Facebook or Instagram accounts of the Flatwoods Monster Museum for more!
